Hi, I am David de la Peña Frigolet
My passion in Level Design comes from my long love of innovation and imagination, I love that Game Development allows us the freedom to imagine worlds and make them come to life. As a child I wanted to be an inventor, to create things that bring happiness to people and I believe making video games is just that.
I’ve been making games for 9+ years in education and entertainment in various roles - I’ve been a game designer, level designer, project manager and programmer. I have enjoyed many years working on games with Indie teams, including the 4 years I spent running my small studio in Mexico. However I have recently moved to Canada to further my studies, as well as to find an opportunity to work with larger teams in AAA. I hope to one day work as a Lead Level Designer at a world renowned studio.
With my background in Engineering and programming, I find the most enjoyment in technical level design where my skills are particularly challenged. What I love most is solving problems or optimizing tasks by understanding them, abstracting them and creating tools or processes that not only solve the specific problem, but are also flexible enough to address a broader combination of the original problem, finally making it reusable for future projects. I enjoy collaborating with artists and programmers, my technical ability functions as the bridge between art and code, always aiming to make everyone's work not only easier, but also flourish.
I am really sociable, easy going and a good team player. I believe the most important part of game development is good communication and of course, creating the right tools.
