Pueblo Chinampa is an educational video game that teaches kids how to save and invest money, it is a top down scrolling action adventure inspired by Zelda. 

Objective:

  • Create an engaging game where children learn to save and invest money

  • Distribute the game in as many platforms as possible

  • Maintain a small build size so that it can be accessed in places with bad internet

  • Build 22 levels in a short time period

Level Design

Challenges:

  • Have 5 different weapons and puzzles for each world

  • Build 5 distinctive worlds with the least amount of art

  • Design an enticing economy 

Process:

  • Design overall world in paper

  • Design puzzles for each world

    • Puzzles follow the philosophy of teach, test, challenge​

  • Use tile based editor to hand paint levels

  • Implement puzzles by working closely with programmers to design tools

  • Designed and implemented tool for AI patrols and wave patterns

Economy Design

I was tasked to design an economy that entails...

  • How much money is in each level

  • How much each item cost

  • How much the player can make by investing (assuming the golden path)
